It's an interesting experiment but I do feel the turntablists need to think outside the box and leave aside the drops and classic battle cuts and focus on using the actual turntable as if it was an instrument, if we really want to convice other musicians about our validity to interpret true music... that is creating new sounds (not dropping existing sounds) and flowing with the melodies and music, instead of simply scratching and producing effects. If DJs want to start something new, they must leave the oldschool scratch style aside and use the turntable in a whole innovative way imho. Otherwise, it will always sound artificial and unconnected, as most people realized. Just my 2 cents.

I wonder if they could do something like live recording of the orchestra with the ability to play back and manipulate the recording while it's being made. Like, you hear the orchestra play something and then you immediately hear the turntablist manipulate what the orchestra played, then it goes back to the orchestra and the process repeats. That would be cool.

The recent passing of the last great Broadway music writer, made it all the more poignant. I am a party pianist in Nashville. I play 451 songs by ear, but cannot read music. This week I ended a wonderful, protracted, online romance. Without understanding why, yesterday, after years of struggling to learn this song, I sat down at the piano and it came easily. I sent her the link as our final communication. This was a delightful show.

Symphony orchestras around the globe have been loosing audience members, as dedicated fans have been aging and passing away. Younger people have not gravitated to Classical Music, and serious music audiences are dwindling. As a remedy, creative orchestras have been using gimmicks and integrating themselves with pop culture in an effort to keep their musicians in business. If the masses no longer dig what you do, you have to give them what they want if you expect to continue to put food on the table.

I can't say how disappointed I am with Gabriel Prokofiev's music. It ought ot be so much better. I had such hopes - a compination of 'classical' and club based deejaying couldn't go wrong could it? It's so VAPID (I thought the same about his violin concerto). Not, I think, a chip off the old block.

This is a beautiful, beautiful song. For years I thought it was about the end of a love affair between two people, and only discovered a few years ago that it's based on a question asked by the director of the show what the chorus line would do if they were to find out that after today they would never dance again. It is deeply heartbreaking and makes you realise just how fragile and fleeting life can be - and how we should treasure every precious moment because... it's all we ever really have.

Kiss today goodbye The sweetness and the sorrow Wish me luck, the same to you But I can't regret what I did for love What I did for love Look, my eyes are dry The gift was ours to borrow Oh, it's as if we always knew And I won't forget what I did for love What I did for love Gone Love is never gone As we travel on Love's what we'll remember Kiss today goodbye And point me t'ward tomorrow Oh, we did what we had to do Oh, won't forget, can't regret what I did for love What I did for love What I did for love Love is never gone As we travel on Love's what we'll remember Kiss today goodbye And point me t'ward tomorrow Oh, we did what we had to do Oh, won't forget, can't regret what I did for love What I did for love What I did for love

I just watched Rachel sing WHAT I DID FOR LOVE in the first episode of the second season of Glee (I'm binge-watching Glee on Netflix). I rushed to my computer afterwards to see this clip. I think it's the best part of the movie. I saw a traveling live version of A CHORUS LINE several years ago; that performance was down-right awful. For we who may never see a Broadway production, these will have to suffice. It's a great song.

I had heard the song on the radio, but had no idea it was from "Chorus Line." When she sang this song in the movie, I started to cry (so glad I was alone). I went back two or three times that year and sometimes sang in to myself when I walked on the beach.

Jesus! Guys some critics are so undeserved, specially when u r taking a famous play and turn it in a movie production. Not all the elements are gonna work in the movie because are meant to impact the live audience. Both versions were good in each category. In theater the music will always be better than the dancing; not necessarily the same in movie which's a more visual entertainment. And I did see both versions!

It is inexcusable that the producers of this movie did not understand how this song was the heart of the original Broadway musical. One of the dancers suffers a career-ending injury on stage and is rushed to the hospital. The remaining dancers, in a daze, are asked by the director why they do what they do, when they know that someday they will have to stop dancing. Diana answers with this song, and then all of the dancers join in. It is an anthem about pursuing your passion in life, no matter how many risks there are or how many sacrifices you must make. On stage, it is one of the most poignant moments in the show ("We did what we had to do/ Won't forget, can't regret/ What I did for love"). But in the movie, they turn it into a sappy love song about a failed relationship between Cassie and Zach. So misguided. This is why the movie fails on so many levels: It has some nice dancing and decent versions of some of the songs, but it completely misses the emotional impact of the play.
